President Gotabhaya Rajapakse says that his aspiration is to maximize bilateral corporation in identified sectors with regional countries including Bangladesh. The president mentioned this when the new Bangladesh high commissioner Tharik Mohomad Ariful Islam presented his credentials at the president’s house this morning. The President pointed out that there is an immense possibility of enhancing ocean cooperation as nations in the Indian Ocean. President Rajapakse said that agriculture and export crop promotion, tourism industry, education and trade relations are other areas. The President identified education cooperation at university level is another priority. The High commissioner pointed out that a large number of Sri Lanka students are following higher education in Bangladesh. He said that education opportunities in Bangladesh can be used for the benefit of both countries. The high commissioner re-called the invitation extended to the president to tour Bangladesh stating that a Sri Lankan state leader has not visited Bangladesh after 2018. The president emphasizing the need for relations at state leadership level, agreed to pay attention after the prevailing difficult period is over.
