The Asian Development Bank provides Sri Lanka with eight billion rupees – for lending through financial institutions – for customers to purchase Rooftop Solar Power Panels.

The Asian Development Bank has given Sri Lanka eight billion rupees, for lending through banks and financial institutions, for customers to buy Rooftop Solar Power Panels at eight percent annual interest.

The Department of Development Finance at the Ministry of Finance will co-ordinate with the selected banks and financial institutions to provide credit facilities to customers to buy rooftop solar panels from suppliers who have registered under the Sustainable Energy Authority.

Customers can also sell extra electricity to the grid, under the Net Metering System.

The objective is to generate a capacity of 200 Megawatts for the national grid, through solar power by 2020.

The overall investment of this project is valued at around 70 million dollars, out of which 50 million dollars is provided by the Asian Development Bank.
