COVID-19 recoveries exceed 63,000

Over 60,000 COVID-19 cases have been detected in Sri Lanka during the second wave alone. 735 new patients were identified yesterday, increasing total infections in the country to 68,576. The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak says 197 of yesterday’s 726 new coronavirus cases identified in Sri Lanka, were recorded from the Badulla District. The Ministry of Health says that another 1,133 more patients who were infected with COVID-19 have recovered and were discharged from medical care. This brings the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 63,401.
The Epidemiology Unit said a total of 156,310 frontline workers have been vaccinated as at 8.30 pm last evening. A total of 9,983 frontline workers were inoculated yesterday.
Meanwhile the Epidemiology Unit reported Eight more deaths due to COVID-19, raising the death toll to 351.
