Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, speaking in Parliament yesterday said, the Palali Airport will not be sold to India or to any other country. It will be developed. He further stated, inland airports in Higurakgoda, Batticaloa, Trincomale, Koggala and Digana will also be developed.

The Minister disclosed these details, when Orders under the Air Navigation Act and the Civil Aviation Act were taken up for debate in Parliament yesterday.

Submitting the proposal the Minister said, the objective is to formulate the legal framework and acquire the facilities required for the Aviation Sector on par with international standards. He further stated, the proposed new bill is in alignment with the Montreal Protocol. At present, the compensation granted for a death due to an aircraft accident is 24,000 dollars. He added, under the new proposal, it will be increased to 160 thousand dollars.
