Minister G.L Peris says that those who are responsible for the Easter Sunday attack will be brought before the law. A programme implemented by the government in this regard has achieved a significant progress. The minister mentioned this while commencing the adjournment debate in parliament today on the final report of the presidential commission inquired in to the Easter Sunday attack. He assured that the government will not allow to occur such destruction in the country again.
He pointed out that the report includes recommendation to end the hearing of the case within several days by appointing a special judge bench. A final decision in this regard will be taken following discussions with the chief justice. Minister Peris said that a ministerial subcommittee was pointed not to make recommendations to the government by conducting further investigations. The task of the subcommittee is to identify priority area by studying the presidential commission report which has a huge number of pages. Minister G.L Peris said that if law was implemented correctly on the Mawanella incident, the huge destruction would not have been caused. The Minister pointed out that the suspects who were arrested were released later and there is possibility of taking action against the police officers who are connected to such activities.
