Permanent residency visas to be granted for those who are unable to obtain dual citizenship

The department of Immigration and Emigration has paid its attention on providing permanent residency visas to Sri Lankans living abroad. Controller of the department Chaminda hettiarachchi said that they are having discussions with the department of attorney general in this regard. Sri Lankans living in several countries including Japan, India and China have not been able to get the dual citizenship,

Meanwhile, another 840 were granted dual citizenship yesterday. The number of dual citizenship grants since 2015 has exceeded 33,800. This programme is implemented to get their contributions to national development and to encourage them to deposit their foreign currency in Sri Lankan banks.. The dual citizens can purchase property in Sri Lanka. However, they cannot contest at an election but, they can vote in an election.
