The Department of Meteorology states, with the onset of inter-monsoonal rains, a number of areas in the island are experiencing showers.
Meanwhile, Director of Development at the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy: Sulakshana Jayawardena says, the water level of six reservoirs vital in generating hydro power, has risen. The water level in these reservoirs has risen by 70 to 74 percent, therefore he says, hydro power generation is at a level of 30 to 35 percent.
Mahaweli Director General: Sarathchandra Vithana says, since reservoirs in the Mahaweli Zones are receiving rainfall, two sluice gates of the Polgolla Reservoir have been opened. However, he projects, since the water level of all rivers flowing from the hill country has risen, cultivations of the Maha Season will be successful.
The Department of Meteorology also notifies, there is no truth in various rumours spreading that the coastal areas of the country are to face an imminent tsunami.
