President Gotabhaya Rajapakse has approved two proposals submitted by State Minister Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle. One of the proposals is to add 112 new ambulances to the 1990 Suwasariya ambulance service. The other proposal is to allocate over 5727 million rupees for the monthly allowance of elders on the waiting list. The 1990 Suwasariya ambulance service helps to admit more than 1000 patients to hospitals daily, at present. It has 297 ambulances, 1394 staff members and gets over 5300 telephone calls daily at present. The service was launched under a 22 million dollar Indian aid. It is now being maintained with state funds. The proposals are to be submitted to the Cabinet.
