The National Economic Council, headed by President Maithripala Sirisena, discussed about the current status of the country’s economy with private sector and the academia.
The National Economic Council met the President yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat. The business leaders, chambers of commerce and industries, members of the academia including vice-chancellors of universities, and public sector officials participated at the meeting .
The council sought views on immediate measures to be taken with regard to the current economic status of the country.
Special attention was drawn regarding the promotion of Sri Lanka’s export sector and managing the devaluation of the rupee.
The Central Bank explained in detail regarding, the steps that have been taken by the Central Bank to manage the depreciation of the rupee.
