The United States and its Western allies have announced new sanctions against Belarus over the forced landing of a passenger plane in May. The move is a response to the forcible action by President Alexander Lukashenko’s administration. Belarusian authorities detained dissident journalist Roman Protasevich who was on board. The US announced on that it added 16 Belarusian individuals, including Lukashenko’s aides, and five entities to its sanction list. Their property in the United States has been blocked and transactions with Americans are prohibited.The European Union, Britain and Canada also announced similar sanctions on Monday.
