Steps to be taken, to address the shortage of teachers in all national schools

Speaking in Parliament today, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said, steps will be taken to address the shortage of teachers in all national schools. A gazette notification in this regard will be issued soon. He further stated, to rectify the delay in enrolments to National Colleges of Education which are popularly known as ‘Vidya Peeta’; this year, two batches will be enrolled.
A gazette notification will be published for the recruitment of 600 principals for Grade 3 Positions.

Also speaking in Parliament today, Minister Ranjith Madumabandara said, pension anomalies will be rectified. He added, within three months after assuming power, the present government took steps in rectifying pension anomalies, however, even throughout nine long years, the previous regime was unable to deliver a fair solution to pensioners. Responding to a question raised by MP Dinesh Gunawardhana, the Minister emphasized, retrenchment of public sector employees will not take place.
