The Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations ensures Estate Workers that a fare wage will be agreed on, within the next few weeks

Minister of Labour and Trade Union Relations: Ravindra Samaraweera says, the two and half trillion rupees of funds of the EPF, are safe. He pledges, the United National Party Government will not go for the next election, without expanding this fund. The Minister further states, a scheme similar to the Pension Scheme will be introduced for Private Sector employees.

With regard to estate workers, a number of discussions have been held with Stakeholders in the Plantation Sector, on increasing the daily wages of estate workers. At these discussions, a collective agreement to increase salaries every two years was also given consideration.

The Minister expressed these views, at a ceremony held to vest with the public, the Ilancheriyanpuram New Village constructed in the Badulla-Poonaagala Estate. The Minister assured the estate workers that a fare wage will be agreed on, within the next few weeks.
