The Ministry of Education states, a number of complaints have been received pertaining to the Admission of Students to Grade One Classes in 2019.

The complaints pertain to a discrepancy, when the Total Marks awarded to children interviewed on the basis of ‘Proximity to the School’, were included in the Waiting List.

Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has instructed officials to conduct an inquiry in this regard, immediately.

The Minister points out, in the backdrop where even the Right to Information Act has been empowered, it is totally unacceptable for parents to be presented with contradictory results, by officials who resort to such actions either deliberately or without any sense of responsibility.

Interviews need to be conducted with a sense of transparency.

The Minister assures, if parents have a suspicion that their children are faced with injustice, at any moment, they can seek information under the Right to Information Act.
