A debate on a supplementary estimate for the Ministry of Highways and Road Development under the active accountability management Act took place in parliament today.
Presenting the Motion Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that a clear method has been followed debt management. The economy of the country was collapsed as loans were obtained without any responsibility during the previous administration. The government is preparing a proper plan to repay that debt. The minister said that, 75 percent of the loans that has to be paid by the government in 2019 and 2020, have been taken before 2015.
Participating in the debate Minister Kabeer Hashim said that, the government has paid 65 thousand million rupees as compensation for the lands acquired by the previous government for road development work. He said that, the agreement for the first phase and the 3rd phase of the central expressway will be signed before the end of this year.
