Leader of the communist party Dew Gunasekara says the country face the most severe economic downturn during the past three years. At a seminar held recently in Colombo he said the flow of foreign exchange into the country has been disturbed due to various reasons.

Now Sri Lanka has to excessively spend foreign reserves for importing commodities. A foreign citizen was appointed as the governor of the central bank during the past regime for the first time in history of Sri Lanka. It is a record that he committed the biggest act of corruption in Sri Lanka, the bond scam.
