Secretary to the National Economic Council: Professor Lalith Samarakoon says, the government is in possession of sufficient Foreign Currency Reserves, to service foreign debt in 2019. The total repayment sum for next year is 1.5 billion dollars.

Speaking at a media briefing held today to announce cabinet decisions Professor Samarakoon said, the Central Bank is in possession of reserves worth 7.2 billion dollars.

Joining in the media briefing Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said, no matter which government is in power, the country is under obligation to pay its debts, regardless of under which government they were obtained. He says, for debt repayments to be made, parliamentary approval is not needed.

Also joining in the media briefing, Minister of Media: Dayasiri Jayasekara said, no matter what political crises prevail in the country, detailing the situation to foreign countries is disloyalty to the motherland.
