Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva says that the vote in parliament today is not legal. Speaking during a media briefing today, the minister said that it was done according to an arbitrary decision of the Speaker. He emphasized that the result of the vote will not affect the Prime Minister, new government or the new cabinet of ministers.

He said that the Speaker should act in a legal basis in parliament by appointing a legal select committee and present a no confidence motion against the government legally.

Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that the government was leaving the chamber as the Speaker was acting against the constitution at the standing orders.
