President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed relevant officials to prepare an effective programme to control the organized crimes and spreading of narcotics which have become a big social menace. At a meeting held with senior police and security forces officials President’s office yesterday, the president stressed to strengthen the relevant officials with powers.
The progress was also reviewed on the inquiries conducted on organizational crimes, and eradicating such gangs, where the President showed the importance of having a tough schedule with rules on preventing threats of the underworld.
A new committee will be appointed to solve the issues of the lower grade police officers. The President reviewed the progress of the measures taken to curb the drugs menace in the country.
He requested to submit a report of measures taken by police during last few months to control the drug menace. He also requested to submit a report on monthly basis in this regard. He stressed the need to control the underworld activities as well.
