Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has notified estate owners and representatives of estate trade unions to arrive at a decision on increasing the daily wage of estate workers, and notify him of the decision on the 3rd of next month.
A discussion in this regard was held at the Prime Minister’s Office, today.
At the discussion, trade union representatives complained, they have not received a favourable response from the authorities on their plea for an increase in daily wages.
Estate owners pointed out, there is a risk of factories shutting down, due to this issue.
The Prime Minister instructed the parties involved, to decide on a figure that meets with the expectation of estate workers and the pay offer of estate owners, and to notify him of the decision.
