Co cabinet spokesman Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara says the President appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Prime Minister in accordance with the provisions given in the constitution. Accordingly, the Parliamentarian who is able to win the confidence of majority of Parliamentarians can be appointed as the Prime Minister. Therefore, no vacancy on the Prime Ministerial post at present. The Minister further said that the Parliament proceeding held yesterday were against the standing orders and the Parliamentary convention as well. According to the constitution an appropriation bill can only be presented by Cabinet Ministers. The opposition is now attempting to deceive the general public by saying they are able to cut down the votes of the Prime Minister. The opposition also threatens state officials to hamper the administrative activities.
