The Appeal Court has issued a restraining order on the 49 ministers including Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa preventing them from holding their ministerial portfolios. An Appeal Court judge bench headed by President of the Appeal Court Preethi Padman Surasena issued the order this afternoon after a lengthy hearing. The bench granted permission to hear the case and ordered the respondents to make submissions in court on the 12th of this month. The restraining order will be effective until the court ends the hearing. This petition was submitted by 122 parliamentarians including UNP, TNA, JVP, SLMC and All Island Peoples’ Congress. They stated in the courts that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has no majority in the parliament and the speaker has also confirmed it.
