President Maithripala Sirisena pledges to take all steps to strengthen the agricultural economy. He was speaking after opening a granary at Medirigiriya in Polonnaruwa that is capable of storing 10,000 metric tons of paddy. This granary was built at a cost of 313 million rupees.

Speaking further, President Sirisena said the Moragahakanda project has been able to completely resolve the water problem of farmers in the Ampara, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala districts. He expressed hope that the Kalu Ganga project would be completed by July next year to further benefit the farmers.

While in Polonnaruwa, the President also distributed livelihood development equipment among 4,500 beneficiaries. Speaking here, he said he expected the patriotic citizens to take decisions responsibly in consideration of the interests of the motherland.
