Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says the United National Party will contest the forthcoming election in a new alliance as National Democratic Front. He said this while addressing the public rally, Fight for Justice at the Galle Face Green in Colombo today. Shortcomings in the party will be identified and steps will be taken to rectify those. He requested to give a two third majority to the United National Party at the forthcoming general election to abolish the executive presidential system. The Prime Minister said he takes every action based on the unitary state concept.
Deputy Leader of the Party Sajith Premadasa said that Speaker Karu Jayasuriya was asked to accept the Prime Minister’s post 14 times and he was asked to accept it ten times. He said that Mr. Karu Jayasuriya and he rejected the request at all times. He added that he could be appointed to a portfolio only by the people.
UNP Assistant Leader Ravi Karunanayake said that although he was neglected, he set aside those actions for the victory of the party. He said that the UNP will rule the country from 2020 to 2030.
MP Patali Champika Ranawaka said that a strong government should be set up in parliament. The main target should be the presidential election of 2019. He pointed out during the last 50 days people have realized former President Mahinda Rajapaksa could not achieve anything.
Expressing views at the public rally MP Rajitha Senarathne said that steps will be taken to provide health benefits to the people which were denied during the last 50 days.
MP Mujubar Rahuman pointed out that the confidence and the commitment of the party activists were increased during the last few days. Therefore, he said that the UNP was able to gather a massive crowd to the Galle Face Green after 25 years.
