The price of fuel has been reduced from mid-night today

Prime Minister Wickremasinghe says, that all measures were in place to grant benefits to the people by preparing budget on the 5th of November. It was disrupted due to the crisis on the 26th of October. The parliament has the power to control money it he country. The Prime Minister said in parliament today that a Vote on Account had to be presented due to the recent crisis. Number of development programmes such as “Gamperaliya” were disrupted. T

The Prime Minister said that the district secretaries would be instructed through the ministers to recommence the development projects. He said that, the price of fuel has been reduced from mid-night today.

Accordingly the price of a liter of 92 and 95 Octane petrol have been reduced by 10 rupees. A liter of diesel has been reduced by 5 rupees. A liter of super diesel has been reduced by 10 rupees.

Minister Mangala Samaraweera presented in parliament today a Vote on Account for next three months. The minister said that, if the Vote on Account was not passed in Parliament, the country will face an economic crisis from next month. All measures will be taken to strengthen the economy and to proceed with the development projects. He said that fuel prices will be further reduced in future.

Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse taking part in the debate pointed out, the time has come to be People Friendly. Therefore the price of essential goods in the market should be brought down. He said that he reduced the VAT and Price of Goods after becoming the Prime Minister.

Minister Kabeer Hasheem said that, the people were burdened with tax during the rule of former President , Mahinda Rajapakse. He said that, the expectation is to conduct an election after discussions with all democratic stakeholders.

However, he said it cannot be done for personal political aims of individuals.

Speaker Karu Jayasooriya informed the House that he has received a motion challenging the Opposition Leader’s post and MP post of Mr.Mahinda Rajapakse and MP posts of several other parliamentarians.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in parliament this morning that fuel prices will be reduced with effect from midnight today. Accordingly, the price of Lanka Auto Diesel litter will be reduced to 101 rupees and Super Diesel price will be reduced to 121 rupees. The prices of litter of Octane 92 Petrol will be slashed to 125 rupees, while Petrol 95 Octane will be 149 rupees.
