Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna says that the drug shortage prevailing in the government hospitals at present will be eased without delay. At a discussion held in the Ministry yesterday, he said that consultant doctors have informed that there is a shortage of five varieties of essential drugs for the inmate and outdoor patients of the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama. Admissions of patients to Apeksha Hospital were temporarily suspended this morning due to this reason. The hospital will be provided with the essential drugs by Monday. A variety of drug urgent for cancer patients will be brought to the country by air. It has been revealed that there is a shortage of 71 varieties of medicines in the hospitals islandwide.
