The disaster management center says a large number of families in Kilinochchi have been displaced due to floods. Assistant director of the center Pradeep Kodippili told the SLBC that Kilinochchi and Mulathivu districts have received heavy rain since Friday night.
Many low lying areas have gone under water. The displaced families have been relocated at several welfare centers. Mulathivu district secretary Mrs. R Kedeeswaram says that Iranamadu and Kalmadu reservoirs are now at the spill level and the people living in the vicinity have been requested to be vigilant on rising water levels and possible floods.
Meanwhile, vehicular transportation along the Mankulam – Kilinochchi A-9 main road has been disrupted due to floods.
