The cost involved in restoring the vandalized Buddha statues at Mawanella and Kadugannawa is being estimated, and will be finalized this week

Minister Sajith Premadasa says, with the intention of carrying out a speedy investigation into the incident in which Buddha statues in four locations at Mawanella and Kadugannawa were vandalized, steps have been taken to deploy officials of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Archaeology, to investigate.

Preliminary investigations have revealed, the destroyed Buddha statues are not of archaeological value. However, the Minister says, since these locations are revered by devotees, the destroyed sculptures need to be restored.
The cost of the restoration work is being estimated, and will be finalized this week.
