The draft of a new constitution will be submitted to the Constitutional Council next week. The draft has been incorporated with the suggestions and recommendations put forward by constitutional experts. Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe headed a committee that was tasked with formulating a new constitution. The committee has concluded entertaining suggestions and recommendations from experts. Included are the abolition of the executive presidency, giving more powers to parliament, reorganizing provincial councils and empowering local government bodies.
