Turkey will ask US officials in talks today, to hand over to Ankara its military bases in Syria, or destroy them.
However, this is a request that could further complicate discussions over the US withdrawal from Syria.
US National Security Adviser: John Bolton is meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ibrahim Kalin today, days after Bolton added a condition to the US withdrawal saying, Turkey must agree to protect the United States’ Kurdish ally: ‘The YPG Militia’, which Ankara views as a terrorist group.
The YPG has been the key US ally in the fight against the Islamic State. Turkey views the YPG as an extension of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party, which has waged a three-decade insurgency in Turkey’s mainly Kurdish south east.
