Minister of Mass Media: Mangala Samaraweera, speaking in Parliament yesterday said, the tense situation that erupted at ITN was brought under control with the agreement of all parties concerned.

Those who were involved in the protests have returned to their duties.

The Minister pointed out, it was the general public in the surrounding areas that were affected by the situation. He said, it is disappointing to note, a proper investigation was not conducted, even after a complaint was made with the police.

Minister Mangala Samaraweera added that government says it cannot accept the conduct of certain media organizations during the political crisis occurred recently.

The Minister also stated, the loss caused to the Independent Television Network at the 2015 Presidential Election is pointed out in the report of the Presidential Commission appointed to inquire into the issue. He added, Mahinda Rajapaksa’s name is also mentioned in the report.

Responding to the statement, Opposition Leader: Mahinda Rajapaksa stated, that he does not accept the report of the Presidential Commission due to the fact that some of the testimonies and witnesses provided biased statements.
