President Maithripala Sirisena says the Police Department should be filled with intellectual persons. It should be made a professional service. The President said this while attending the annual diploma awarding ceremony of the National Police Training Schools yesterday at the BMICH.
The President pointed out that he has taken steps to strengthen the police within a short period of two months after taking over the service. He pointed out the need to conduct a competitive examination to recruit to the Police Department.
The President said that those who appear for human rights show compassion to dollars but not for human beings. He said that they do not spend any funds to stop illegal social activities. 267 police officers who successfully completed the higher diploma and the diploma courses at the National Police Training School were presented with certificates on the occasion
