The trade union action of the customs officers ends

The Customs Trade Union Alliance says it has ended the trade union action launched recently over the appointment of the retired navy officer as the Director General of Customs.

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera has withdrawn the proposal to appoint retired navy officer Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando as the Director General. Secretary of the Custom Staff Officers Association Vipula Minuwanpitiya told the SLBC the cabinet has already decided to withdraw their decision. He also thanks President Maithripala Sirisena and the government for the intervention of solve in this problem.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara says the cabinet has decided to reappoint Mrs. P.S.M. Charles to the Director General of Customs. Parliamentarian Mujubar Rahuman states that he has requested Minister Mangala Samaraweera to start an investigation into the allegations levelled against the government by the Custom Officers Association.
