President Maithripala Sirisena says, the death sentence for drug smuggling will be implemented within the next two months.
The President made this statement, joining in today’s Parliament session.
He said, in order to bring about “discipline” in the country, “strong rules and regulations” are necessary. He emphasized, when such laws are being implemented, it is a wrongful, if human rights organizations appear on behalf of drug smugglers.
Commenting on the alleged plot to assassinate himself and the Former Defence Secretary: Gotabaya Rajapakse, the President said, investigations in this regard are being conducted in a proper manner. He added, four days ago, he provided a statement to the investigators. He further stated, within the next few weeks, the public will come to know the specifics.
The President said, the future course of action with regard to the investigations will be taken by the Attorney General’s Department.
