President Maithripala Sirisena has said yesterday in Parliament that the death penalty would be imposed on drug racketeers during the next two months.
He said that the list of the inmates on the death row has been delayed due to the power of the racketeers involved in the drug trade.
Expressing his views about the activities of human rights organizations the president pointed out that those organizations should strive to create a peaceful and disciplined country, but not to de-stabilize the country and create problems.
The president said that the CID will send the investigation report of the conspiracy to assassinate the president to the Attorney-General’s Department within next two weeks. Recording of statements about the incident from the President has been completed.
State Minister Ruwan Wijewardhana said that, discussions will be held with the Dubai government to bring down Makadure Madush who has been arrested in Dubai under the laws prevailing in Dubai to Sri Lanka for further interrogation. 25 others have also been arrested along with Makadure Madush. One of them is reported to be having a diplomatic passport.
