More leprosy cases have been identified from highly populated areas in Colombo

The Colombo Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijemuni says that there is a possibility of spreading leprosy in the densely populated areas in the Colombo city. Eleven percent of the entire cases of leprosy have been reported from these areas.

At a press briefing held in Colombo Municipal Council today he said that leprosy cases have been reported from Narahenpita, Dematagoda, Grandpass and Kotahena areas. However, the Health Department of the Colombo Municipal Council has implemented a proper programme to identify leprosy patients before their illness becomes chronic.
