President Maithripala Sirisena says all open-minded patriots have a responsibility to usher in a broad new national force befitting a new government and a new programme for the country’s tomorrow. He was speaking at the 22nd national convention of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna at the Colombo Town Hall Yesterday.
The President urged all citizens to decide if the new government that takes office this year would be ultra-right wing or one that loves the country and finds solutions to its problems.
He stressed that the country needed a far-reaching national alliance to achieve national victories. The President added the new government should be able to relieve the country of its massive debt burden, bring about economic prosperity and fulfill people’s aspirations.
Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was a special invitee, told the event that the government by him had waged war against terrorism, and not against any particular community. Leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna Dinesh Gunawardena said all forces should unite to demand elections without delay.
