Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board Kasthuri Anuradhanayake says many of their storage facilities are now opened to purchase paddy in the Maha season. He said that storage complexes are receiving small stocks of paddy as the harvesting is continuing. He requested the farmers not to sell their paddy to the private sector for lesser price than the government’s guaranteed price. 1,752 metric tons of paddy has been purchased so far. The target is to purchase 150 thousand metric tons of paddy in the Maha season. Under the government’s guaranteed price, a kilogramme of Samba paddy is purchased for 41 rupees and a kilogramme of Nadu rice for 38 rupees.
