President Maithripala Sirisena says there is a decrease of the number of kidney patients in the country due to the intensive programme implemented by the government to control the disease during the past two years.
The President revealed this fact at a public rally held in Gatambe grounds following the opening of new kidney diseases treatment unit attached to the Kandy General Hospital and the welfare center for kidney patients and their families.
The President further said that awareness programmes should be accelerated to educate the general public on prevention of the disease.
The government is considering paying the compensation allowance for each and every person who are suffering from kidney related diseases.
This kidney treatment center has been constructed totally under the financial assistance given by the National Kidney Diseases Prevention Fund. The President also declared open the new pediatric treatment unit of the Peradeniya Hospital.
