Minister Gayantha Karunathilleka says, the Light Rail Transit Project connecting Malabe and Colombo Fort will be implemented. This light rail system is 17 kilometers in length comprising 16 stops and a depot. The Minister mentioned this move speaking at a press briefing held in Colombo today to announce cabinet decisions.

Cabinet approval was previously granted for the amendment of the Value Added Tax Act, Nation Building Tax Act, and Economic Services Charges Act. However, taking into consideration request made from many parties, Doctors Consultation Fees, Channelling Charges, and Payments made to Medical Practitioners will be exempted. Cabinet approval was received for the proposal put forward in this regard by Minister Mangala Samaraweera.

Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathne said, the Cabinet of Ministers has decided to enforce the death penalty on drug traffickers – a bid to curb the on-going mass-scale drug smuggling.
