The President launches Sujatha Daruwo programme to prevent school students and new generation from using drugs

President Maithripala Sirisena says another special programme of drug prevention national programme, Sujatha Daruwo will be launched from the 15th of next month to prevent the new generation and school students taking to drugs.

The President said this while attending to open the new building of Sri Lanka Substance Preventive Agency. The programme Sujatha Daruwo will implement broad measures to prevent drugs being taken to university students and school students.

The President said that according to new statistics there are nearly 200,000 persons who are taking drugs. The government has launched an extensive programme to prevent drug abuse and to make the laws stronger. The President said that steps are underway to establish a rehabilitation authority for drug addicts.

The President pointed out the need for the sports men and women to refrain from using steroids. The new building opened by the President today has been built at a cost of 190 million rupees and it is situated at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
