US-backed forces battling the Islamic State Group in Syria say, they have launched their final assault on the jihadists’ last pocket of control in the country.
The Baghuz Village in eastern Syria has been besieged by the Syrian Democratic Forces for several weeks.
Spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces: Mustafa Bali, speaking to the media said, his forces moved into the village – which lies on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River near the Iraqi border – after the final batch of civilians had left.
Mr Bali declined to speculate on how long the final push might take, but the Syrian Democratic Forces say, it expects a final victory within a week.
They expect a fierce and heavy battle.
