President Maithripala Sirisena says he appreciates the services rendered by Sri Lanka Air force to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country during the last 68 years.
The president said this at the 68th anniversary ceremony of Sri Lanka air force at Higurakgoda Air Force Base. He also said the Sri Lanka Air force has the ability of working with the world developed Air forces due to they have the professional skills, technology knowledge, discipline and the dedication. He paid his gratitude to the members of war heroes who were disabled and sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland.
The President awarded Presidential colors to the No.7 Helicopter Squadron and No.8 Light Transport Squadron of the Air Force for the excellent services.
The Air Force exhibition and Air Tatoo – 2019 will be at Air Force Base at Higurakgoda from today to Wednesday. The Carnival will commence at 2 pm each day and it will be opened until mid-night for the public. The Air force service in the country was commenced on the 2nd of Marh in 1951 as a Lanka Royal Air force. The first Air force commander was group captain G. C. Blaiman. The Sri Lanka Air force commander was Air vice Marshal G R Amarasekera.
