President Maithripala Sirisena says Sri Lanka should become the center to promote Theravada Buddhism to the world. He made this remark opening the newly constructed Saddharmaraja Buddhagaya Chaithya, yesterday. He also said that the country was the center of Theravada Buddhism as in the past, so that we can make expressions with the pride and honour of our history, culture and Buddhist heritage.
The Prescient reiterated that the responsibility of today, is to distribute the Theravada Buddhism to all Buddhist people in the world safeguarding that noble heritage. He paid his attention to the request made by the Maha Sangha to establish a place for the Sri Lankan Theras who are in Myanmar. The president said he will have diplomatic discussions with Myanmar in this regard.
