President Maithripala Sirisena emphasizes the importance of all political parties joining hands to build the nation. The President made these remarks at a discussion held with local and foreign media heads and representatives this morning at President’s house.
Addressing the media personnel the President further said most of the promises given in the election manifesto were fulfilled during the last four years in office. Steps have been taken to improve the export volume and reduced the foreign debt burden.
The President also said the country should move forward with the support of past experiences. The President also pointed out that it is useless pointing fingers at each one at this juncture.
The President also said effective measures have been taken to eliminate drug trafficking and drug menace in the country. A special programme will be implemented from 3rd of April to educate the school children,
state employees and private sector on the bad effects of drug use. A special charter declaration will be made on that day at 8.00 am. A series of awareness programmes on drug prevention activities will be carried out island wide targeting the youth age group from 17 to 30.
