To mark the occasion of initiating the process to declare the Theravada Thripitakaya a world heritage, the “Thrpitakabhiwandana Week” has been announced from today to the 23rd of this month.
The national ceremony will be held under the patronage of the Maha Sangha with the Maha Nayaka Theros of the Tri-Nikayas, and with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena, at the Maha Maluwa of the premises of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, on 23rd March.
On the 16th of March, the Tripitakabhiwandana Week will be held at police divisional level, based on Pindapatha Alms Giving, alongside various religious programs in Sri Lankan temples and abroad.
On Sunday, the 17th of March, a program is to be implemented to construct Sunday Damma School buildings in 226 temples, for children studying Dhamma education under the trees.
On the 20th of March, which is Medin Full Moon Poya Day, the ‘Janapathi Sadaham Yaththra’ program will be conducted.
On the 21st of March, the Presidential Secretariat and all Governor’s Offices will jointly organise alms giving programs.
On the 23rd of March, the national festival will take place at the historical Dalada Maligawa, bringing to a conclusion the Tripitakabhiwandana Week.
