President Maithripala Sirisena explains the alternative measures to do away with Year Five Scholarship Exam. The President also emphasised the importance of eliminating a strenuous examination from the education curricular for the benefit of the students.
The President made these remarks at a function held at Godagama Subharathi Vidyalaya yesterday. Addressing the gathering the President said a survey showed only 13 percent of year five scholarship pass outs are there in the group of students who excel in G.C.E. O-Level and A-Level exams.
This clearly shows year five exam is not a mandatory qualification or a competency level examination to promote the student to become more intelligent to face difficult exams such as G.C.E O-level and A-Level.
The President also suggested an alternative method to do away with Year Five Scholarship Exam by conducting a scholarship exam in Grade Seven or Eight.
