The new Matara-Beliatta Railway Line will be vested with the public tomorrow. In addition, the Piladoowa, Veherahena, Kekunandura, Bambarenda, Wevurukannala, and Beliatta Railway Stations will also be vested with the public. The track is 27 kilometres long. Project Engineering Director: Priyantha Deegala says, trains can ply at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour, while the track has been constructed to sustain even a speed of 120 kilometres per hour as well.
The first train will begin its journey from the Matara Railway Station, at 9.00am, tomorrow.
With effect from Tuesday morning, trains will commute from the Beliatta Railway Station to Colombo Fort. Seven trains will operate from the Beliatta Railway Station, out of which one train will terminate at Galle, while four trains will ply to Maradana, and the other two trains will proceed to Vavunia and Jaffna
