The government has signed an agreement to build a 100 mega-watt floating solar power plant in Maduru-Oya reservoir. Relevant documents were signed this morning at the presidential secretariat under the supervision of president Maithripala Sirisena. This plant will be constructed in 500 acre area of the reservoir. First 10 mega-watts of the power plant will be added to the national grid by November this year. The entire project will be completed by September 2020. Several more solar power plants have also planned to construct in Mahaweli Reservoirs. The government aims to fulfill 50 percent of electricity requirement of the country through solar power plants by the year 2030.
