Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka says a proper national physical development plan has been implemented in the country at present. Under this plan five development corridors will be set up. One extending from Colombo to Trincomalee and the second is from Galle to Hambantota. Another corridor will be set up from Valachchena to Batticaloa. Mannar will be the hub of future development in Sri Lanka. Minister Ranawaka made these remarks participating in a programme organised in the SLBC yesterday. It has been organised in collaboration with Government Information Department and Civil Organisations Forum.
The Minister further said that the geographical features and intellectual labour should be properly utilized to win the development goals. The trade competition between China and America regarding the strategic importance of Sri Lanka should be tapped for the benefit of the country. The Minister further said that there are about 50,000 shanti dwellers in Colombo and 22 families will be provided with substantial houses by next year. The water drainage system and the sewerage system of the Colombo city will be renovated. Permanent solution will be drawn to the garbage problem.
