Participating in a ceremony organised to vest with the public, the “Senpathi Gotaimbara-gama” Reawakened Village completed in the Julpallama area in Tissamaharaamaya, Minister Sajith Premadasa said, the year 2019 is a crucial year, since the targets of the “Udaa Gammana” programme are being met, and thereby the poor people of the country are being provided a solution to their housing issues. However he notes, for some, this year is a crucial year, as they hope to have a Presidential Election, grab power, and bequeath the country to their relatives. He advises the voters to think wisely as to whether they are to bestow power on those who serve just “one family”, or are they to vote for “leaders of the people” who are sensitive to the people’s needs. He cautioned, by returning the wrong people to power, it is the voters themselves who will suffer.
The Minister noted, out of the 2.5 million families facing housing issues, the government has provided relief to 350,000 families. He stressed, the objective is to establish 20,000 Reawakened Villages, by 2025.
